Introduction Week (TMoM): Oct 17-21

For our first week together we'll read The Introduction: Discovering the Ministry of Motherhood. We can use the Study and Discussion at the end of the intro for a bouncing board for "talking" in our comments.

Here is a link to Sally Clarkson's introduction video that she did for the Good Morning Girls group: Introduction Video

THURSDAY
Remember to post a comment sometime this week. It might be nice to include a little something about who you are (the number of years you've been homeschooling, ages of kids, etc, just a little something since we may not know this about each other).

FRIDAY
Here is a link to what other moms have said about this introduction: Along the Way

  1. Hello - my name is Shani and I'm looking forward to doing this book study together! I have 5 children, soon to be 6 (due early March) - ages 16, 14, 10, 9, almost 5. My husband Matt and I have been married almost 20 years - it's been an amazing ride, and I'm blessed to have him by my side.

I loved the introduction and Sally's emphasis on our family being our primary ministry - it is so true! I didn't always see things this way, but God has done an amazing work in me and I'm so thankful. Monday's verse struck me - I've read it many times, but as I spent time meditating on it, it occurred to me that by pouring myself into my family I am storing up "treasures in heaven" - an eternal inheritance and reward. When I start to think about all those other things I could be doing, I need to remind myself of this - there really is no better way to spend my time and my life - God had this planned for me all along.

  2. My name is Sheryl. I have four kids ages 8, 5, 3, 9 mo. We have been a part of co-op for I think three years and we've been homeschooling since preschool with my oldest.

I'm excited about this book because I don't want another parenting formula rather I want some encouragment about how to do better what I'm already doing.

(Congratulations Shani! SO happy for you!!)

  3. My name is Kristie and I have 3 kids ages 9, almost 7 and 4-1/2. This is our third year in co-op and I have been married for 10 years as of today!

I am really looking forward to this study. I have always thought of motherhood as a ministry -- my greatest desire is that my children would have a vibrant, real, lasting relationship with Jesus. And while we try to be purposeful about teaching and training our children to follow Jesus, day to day life sometimes overshadows that desire.

As Sheryl said, I really look forward to this book encouraging me to be more intentional in what we've already started and seeing where I can grow and be a better mom for my kids as they head on their journey with Him.

I really enjoyed reading about the Proverbs 31 wife. Not that I haven't looked at it before, but what struck me was how it said she could laugh at the time to come. She doesn't seem overwhelmed and I would love to be more like that! :-)

  4. My name is Laura. My husband and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary of marriage!! After years of infertility we felt God called us to adopt kids with special needs. We now have 6 kids, ages 7, 9 , 16, 18, 19 and 20. Our older kids' developmental disabilities range from cerebral palsy,to a form of muscular dystrophy called myotonic dystrophy, to a chromosomal deletion called 1p36 deletion syndrome. Our youngest 2 boys were prenatally exposed to meth and have some ADD issues.

I homeschooled our oldest son for math and reading for 4 years when he was attending a private school and being bussed to a public school for special ed was emotionally difficult for him. This is my second year of homeschooling my 2 youngest boys. We are enjoying being together (most of the time) and learning together.

I am so please to be a part of this study and have the daily scripture readings. Monday was a reminder to me of the gift my children are to me. I remembered being in church a few years ago and singing "Let the weak say I am strong, Let the poor say I am rich, Let the blind say I can see, It's what the Lord has done in me." I added "Let the barren woman say I am the mother of 5." (we only had 5 at the time). It's amazing how God has put our family together. Sometimes in the trenches of every day life, I forget about this gift he has given to me.

I hope to renew my vision for the ministry God has given me right here in my home. We recently celebrated as our 19 year old daughter finally requested to pray a prayer for salvation!! I know our work is not done. Thanks for going on this journey with me.

  5. Hi Ladies,
My name is Kendra and i have 3 kiddos, 10, 8, & 6 (2 girls & 1 boy). we have been homeschooling for going on our 4th year and it will is also our 4th year in the co-op.

I am looking forward to this book study because I believe as my kids are getting older they are needing me less in their physical dependence needs, and needing me more emotionally and spiritually as they are becoming more exposed to the "real world." I believe this book and God's Word will help me to intentionally improve myself as a mother and minister to my kids. I have always believed my kids are a true gift from God and want to be an "insider" and the "leader" in my kid's journey to know and have Jesus in their life everyday.

Proverbs 14:1 really hit home for me. I want to be the wise woman to build her house and do it well. I don't want to be the foolish one who tears it down. I firmly believe that building it is the tougher part and takes so much longer. foolishly tearing it down can happen so easily and fast through our actions or lack thereof. So i pray to become wiser, more intentional, and learn thru God's word to become a better mother for my children :)
